This year, Growth Ex Partners accepted interns from the GLOBIS Graduate School of Management for the first time. Instead of a field in a system development, conducting an internship in a corporate department was our first time. For six weeks from mid-June to the end of July, we worked together in departments related to corporate planning, human resources, and public relations.

Intercultural Communication

All three interns are foreign nationals. Some members can speak Japanese though, they usually communicate in English.
Actually, on the first day, we had a meeting with an interpreter throughout, but we couldn’t keep doing that forever. By learning and speaking each other’s languages, like English for us and Japanese for them, we have become closer and able to understand each other. We saw many employees enjoying experiencing cultures and values different from their own by sharing the daily routined morning meeting “shiritori”, lunches, and coffee breaks.
It’s better to be fluent in a language, but we realized once again that showing interest in others and understanding different cultures is the first step to communication. Our mutual motivation to get to know each other deepened our interactions. This may be the basis of communication, regardless of nationality.

Final Presentation

During the internship, participants conducted interviews, surveys, and research from their own perspectives on the theme of “What GxP groups should do to globalize human resources.” After an interim presentation, we had a final presentation in front of management and employees.
Each area of interest was unique, and a variety of measures were proposed.
We would like to say thank you to interns for understanding our company in such a short period of time and for coming up with such concrete measures. We’ve heard many voices in the company that their insights and ideas have broadened their horizons. We would like to take actions as soon whatever possible.

Why wanted to join GxP Group? And what are your impressions after internship?

The three members we worked with this time were Rainier (from the Philippines), Prahran (from Thailand), and Karan (from India). We would like to share the reasons why they wanted to experience an internship at GxP Group, and their impressions after completing the six weeks of work.

Why I wanted to intern at GxP?
With the initial company orientation at GLOBIS University By Taeko-san, Mami-san and Gery-san I was intrigued with how the company operated. Given its various holding companies I was interested to see the interactions between companies and employees. Listening, I could tell how harmonious and collaborative the environment was, this is what I saw during the company visit. During the talk, it was evident that GxP would like to help and encourage people to grow as individuals even if that mean stepping out of their comfort zone. Hearing about taking on people with non-IT background and training them, I was captivated by the dedication of the company to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for people.

My impression on actually working here?
My first experience in a Japanese company, particularly at GxP, has been incredibly enriching. The diversity within the company, both in terms of perspectives and cultures, has been a blessing. I’ve not only gained valuable knowledge but also formed meaningful friendships through various interactions. These experiences will stay with me forever, and I’m grateful for the personal growth they have brought into my life.

Why did I want to join GxP?
During company orientation session at Globis and company visit, we learned about the company’s culture and value (plus office environment) which grabbed my attention a lot. So right after a company visit, I decided to apply for the internship position and wanted to apply my experiences and what I learned from MBA to this internship project. Also I hoped this internship opportunity will broaden my perspectives towards Japanese management and people.

Impression on GxP during these 6 weeks
I am impressed by the environment of GxP. I felt the environment here is very unique and is opened to anyone to help creativity, productivity and innovation which shapes the company cultures to be collaborative and people feel free to speak. All GxP people are really friendly and ready to assist each others. Through these 6 weeks of internship, I am grateful for the insights gained, the relationships formed, and the valuable contributions I was able to make during my time there.

Why GxP
The day I was introduced into the office I instantly realised that GxP is the place I wanted to work. The office’s relaxed environment and sustainable goals of the company were a few things that made a good Impression on me.
From the internship I wanted to grow my knowledge about Japanese company work culture, and use my newly gained skills in business management and through this internship I was able to achieve.

Impression on GxP
As I thought GxP had a really healthy environment and friendly colleagues that helped me grow a lot during my 6 weeks as an intern. Not only I was able to improve my Japanese but also learn the Japanese work culture while able to make lots of friends that helped me grow.
The company has a unique and a modern culture unlike many Japanese companies which are very international friendly, making it easy for the people like us to fit in the culture very easily.

At the End

Karan-san, Prang-san, and Rainier-san, thank you for coming to GxP Group for an internship. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at GLOBIS Graduate School of Management for giving me this opportunity.
